Important health and safety matters for an environmental directional driller.

Directional Technologies, Inc. is committed to keeping its employees safe and accident/incident free when executing environmental directional driller assignments.
Persons working at uncontrolled hazardous waste sites, including environmental directional drillers, are required to complete an initial 40-hour training course and an eight-hour annual refresher as mandated by 29 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1910.120 “Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response” (also known by the acronym “HAZWOPER”.  All Directional Technologies, Inc. employees involved in executing environmental directional drilling assignments are required to complete these training programs and participate in annual eight-hour refresher modules.  In addition, Directional Technologies, Inc. requires that new employees spend at least two months participating in hands-on field training with an experienced environmental directional driller to learn how to safely perform environmental directional drilling operations.

Directional Technologies, Inc. prepares site-specific Health and Safety Plans (also known as “HASPs”) for every project prior to commencing environmental directional drilling operations.  Briefly, Health and Safety Plans identify potential risks, such as chemical exposure and physical hazards such as open excavations and then develops procedures to mitigate these risks.  Often, HASPs will require that site workers wear/use personal protective equipment (also known as “PPE”) to mitigate exposure risks to chemicals known to be present at a site.  An example would be the requirement that environmental directional drillers wear disposable nitrile gloves to minimize the risks associated with skin absorption of petroleum hydrocarbons.

Directional Technologies, Inc. performs morning “tailgate safety meetings” for its environmental directional drillers and field support staff to keep safety in the forefront of everyone’s mind and increase employee situational awareness.  Our goal is zero accidents, zero injuries.
