A horizontal remediation well approach consisting of steam injection, SVE, and DNAPL recovery wells were utilized to treat a major source area at a military facility. The primary contaminants of concern were TCE and jet fuel. The volatilization of LNAPL and biodegradation of TCE was enhanced by steam injection beneath the LNAPL plume. Evaluation of the system effectiveness showed that SVE wells were effectively capturing TPH/cVOCs from sub-slab soil gas and decreasing LNAPL mass. Steam injection resulted in tripling of SVE influent levels and doubling of liquid volumes in effluent of the C3 system. Successful implementation of the remediation approach resulted in over 17,000 pounds of TPH/cVOCs removed over a two year period.
