Soil vapor relates to the air that takes up the space in between soil particles. This is the space that contamination fills when the soil is exposed to harmful leaks.
The contaminated soil vapor can remain in soil for decades if untreated, and being less dense than standard air, can rise and congregate beneath the foundations of residences and businesses.
The harmful vapors can then infiltrate into the buildings, posing health threats to all residents or workers inside the facility. Soil vapor contamination can be treated through a process called soil vapor extraction (SVE). Though this process can be implemented in many ways, horizontal remediation wells are the most effective and least invasive way to treat soil vapor contamination.
