An extraction well is a specific type of well that is used to remove a certain medium from the subsurface. In some circumstances, extraction wells are used to remove water from the subsurface, where it can be repurposed or discarded. In many remediation settings, extraction wells are used to remove harmful vapors that exist in subsurface soil above the water table, a process known as soil vapor extraction (SVE).

Horizontal extraction wells offer many advantages in soil vapor extraction scenarios. Horizontal wells contain significantly more well screen compared to standard vertical wells, allowing much more contamination to be influenced at once. This helps homeowners breathe clean air in their homes and keeps clients happy by allowing businesses to continue without the fear of unsafe working conditions.
